Not Quite the Gyroball. . .
I'm not certain what the deal is with this video. I just noticed that there doesn't appear to be anyone in the stands.
Plus, there's no way in hell that pitch is a strike.
Nevertheless, it's pretty funny. The pitcher's reaction is priceless.

Another day in Mannyland.
I couldn't agree more with the RemDawg's comment: when Manny is gone, I will miss him very, very much. And I'm not even talking about his hitting.

MLB Players of the Week.
AL: B.J. Upton, Tampa Bay--If this team had any pitching at all, they could really make things interesting in the AL East. The young positional talent on the Rays is as good as any in the league, with Crawford, Baldelli, Young, Gomes, Dukes, and this guy, who last week hit .417 with 3 HRs, 9 RBIs, and 3 steals. Unfortunately, if they want to be competitive anytime soon, they are going to have to trade one of their young talents for a frontline starting pitcher, and be done with the likes of Casey Fossum (8.58 ERA) and Jae Seo (9.51 ERA).
NL: Jimmy Rollins, Philadelphia--Before the season began, Rollins said Philly was the team to beat in the NL East. With the Phillies sitting in a third-place tie at 11-13, that bravado isn't looking very prescient at this early stage of the season, but it's certainly not Rollins's fault. He's been one of the best players in baseball so far, with 9 HRs, 18 RBIs, 26 runs, and 6 steals. Last week he hit .344 with 3 homers and 4 steals. He's one of the streakiest players in baseball, but he's also one of the most talented, and based on his performance so far, he appears to be taking his game to the proverbial next level.
